Figure 1 – Switch Operation
Opération de commutation Betriebsartenschalter
* Princeton Tec calculates total burn time as the time it takes for the light source to produce a
minimum of 0.25 lux at 2 meters. 0.25 lux is about the equivalent of a full moon on a clear night.
* Princeton Tec berechnet die Gesamtbrenndauer bezogen auf eine von der Stirnlampe erzeugte
minimale Beleuchtungsstärke von 0,25 Lux in 2 Meter Abstand. 0,25 Lux entsprechen in etwa

2 AAA
• Alkaline (LR03) or Lithium
• Rechargeable NiCad or NiMH
Princeton Tec cares about the environment and
recommends recycling batteries. For more information
about battery recycling, please go to: www.batteryrecy-
cling.com
To install the batteries, unlatch the battery door. Open
the Byte case by popping the door latch over the catch
and rotate the door open.
Install two AAA batteries as shown in the diagram. The
tall spring on the battery door should correspond with
the negative polarity and the shorter spring on the
battery door should correspond with the positive
polarity. Observe proper battery polarity when installing
the batteries. Improper installation of the batteries will
damage the light and void the warranty.
Rotate the door to the closed position, squeeze the
body between your forefingers and thumb to snap the
door latch over the catch.
WARNING
• Never mix fresh and used batteries.
• Never mix different battery brands or
chemistry types.
• Always remove drained batteries immediately.
• Remove batteries during long periods of storage.
NOTE: Rechargeable NiCad or NiMH batteries may
result in reduced brightness due to lower nominal
voltage.
Battery Lockout - See Battery Lockout diagram
The Byte has a battery lockout switch integrated into
the battery door. While we still recommend removing
the batteries for prolonged storage, this lockout switch
ensures that the light cannot be turned on accidentally,
and completely eliminates battery drain.
Switch Operation – See Switch Operation diagram
The Byte has two light sources to choose from: one
3mm Red LED and one Maxbright white LED. The Red
LED always turns on first, followed by the Maxbright
LED in low mode, then high mode.
To turn the light on or switch to the Maxbright LED
modes, press and release the power button until the
desired mode is obtained.
To turn the light off, cycle through the remaining modes
until you reach off. Alternatively, the battery lockout
switch will turn Byte off immediately.
*The times listed on the rear of the package assume
beginning with fresh batteries and only using one
mode.
Troubleshooting
If the Byte fails to light:
• Check that the battery lockout switch is in the up/on
position.
• Check the batteries for proper installation.
• Replace batteries if proper installation is
confirmed.
• Check the light for water contamination. The light will
resume normal operation once the water is shaken
or blown out and the light is left open until
completely dry. If the light has been contaminated
with salt water, flush the unit with fresh water and
dry as described above.
Notice:
The Byte has 3 modes. The light will always come on
in the Red LED mode. After the Red LED mode, the
Byte will circulate to the white LED (low, then high).
Please note that after 2 hours of use on the high mode
of the white LED, the Byte will only have one output
mode in the white LED, and there will be no difference
in the beam strength when you press to switch to high
output mode.
